“We are more of who we are because of the connections we have made.”
Working across a range of art modes including works on canvas, relief prints, mosaic and jewellery my arts practice combine a variety of media.
Community and connection carry through my creative practices into my art teaching where children learn to understand themselves as artists, explore the messages they want to share and work together.
The mediums I choose for mixed media works, which include acrylics, drawing materials, oil paints, textiles, papers and found objects are as important to my message as the final product itself.
Mosaics are composed of collected, reclaimed leadlight glass, crockery and ceramic and glass tiles used expressively to tell local stories. Mosaic symbolically represents reconnection and rebuilding, creating beauty out of the broken and fractured.
My parents were gemstone collectors and as a child, I collected gemstones (often dug from the ground with a pick!) from across Australia. My Dad had a passion to cut and set these stones, one which he never fulfilled, and this motivates me to learn the art of metalsmithing and lapidary.
My artworks talk strongly of how we are all connected across generations and cultures, time, place and space.
