Mosaic Heart - Follow Your Dreams (2021)
In The Vines (2020)
This large mixed media artwork was commissioned by local winemaker Matt Koch and his wife, Lucy Koch. They were looking for an artwork that took a contemporary approach to representing our local winemaking community. The parallel lines and image of a car travelling through a section of vines contrasts with the soft layers of dribbled and blended acrylic and oil paints. Matt was looking for the green tones and the effect of “bloom” in the vines whilst Lucy was keen on the muted soft mauves and yellows. It was a challenging colour pallet but one that I managed successfully to please the purchasers. The mediums were recycled WW2 poetry book, acrylic and oil paints on canvas.
Christies Creek (2020)
This community artwork is installed at Flaxmill Primary School, Morphett Vale. It was undertaken as a special project with 20 school students aged 5-14 over 2020. Christies Creek runs through Morphett Vale and is a significant part of local life as a gathering place for children and families. It is significant to the Kaurna people who are the traditional owners and custodians of the Adelaide Plains and waterways.
The students worked together with myself and a Kaurna educator to research and make the sections of the creek and trees from clay. They learnt the process of mosaic to make colourful Australian animals that live along the creek including koalas, emus, turtles, kangaroos, birds and even a tree monster!
Tonal Graphite Drawings (2020)
Located at Harcourts Wine Coast, Aldinga, this large mosaic heart features images of the beautiful Willunga foothills and local features (avenue of trees, Port Willunga Beach, wheat fields and water).
These 4 tonal graphite drawings were completed for local chef, Chef Connor Bishop for his 2020 range of Christmas Gifts. Featuring locally sourced products where possible the brief was an image of almonds, honey, calamansi (citrus) and buerre Bosc pear, cocoa bean and paper bark.
Wine Label (2019)
Miracle Hill Shiraz (McLaren Vale) were seeking expressions of interest for artworks when rebranding their wine label. I designed these two artworks using recycled lead light glass inspired by the name of the wine label featuring green hills flowing with the miracle of red wine. My bold colours and designs were a winner, and really look great!
InHarmony @ Myponga (2018)
InHarmony was a private commission where the brief was very open and was to depict ideas of bringing people together, local Kaurna culture and history, the butterfly as a symbol of change and growth and local flora and fauna. I worked on this design and the artworks with two other women, one a local Kaurna community member, who offered guidance in the use of Kaurna symbols. Both women worked on sections of the mosaic (some of which were, sadly, stolen shortly after installation). Overall, the design depicts a stylised map of the lower Fleurieu Peninsula in the lower section, with a tree and butterfly emerging from the top section. The overall design, the butterfly, rainbow section, gum blossoms and pomegranate branches are my artworks.
Christies Creek Project (2017)
At the time of creating this art work, I was working as the Preschool Director at Brentwood Drive Kindergarten. We worked closely with Kaurna community members and Elders to learn about the significance of Christies Creek to the local community. The kindergarten children went on an excursion to Christies Creek and documented everything they could see in drawings and photographs. This was followed by a terms work learning about the water, plants and animals of the Creek. We were successful in a Community Streetscape Grant through the Onkaparinga Council to develop the children’s drawings into this sculptural artwork installed in the park next to the Kindergarten.
McLaren Vale Mosaic Project (2016)
The owner of the shop neighbouring this mosaic was interested in installing an art work that brightened the area and featured some of the wonderful aspects of this vibrant community. I designed this mosaic and presented it to her as an idea, and we agreed to apply for a Community Streetscape Grant through the Onkaparinga Council, in which we were successful. 7 mosaic artists were involved in the creation of this mosaic, and they worked with 4 community groups to achieve this impressive mosaic art work. As well as overseeing the creation of the art work across 5 separate locations with many helpers, I created the mandala on the right and flag on the left, and assisted with the woman on the right.
